Frequently Asked Questions

Services & Amenities

What types of care and services do you offer in your nursing home?

We offer a wide range of services tailored to the needs of our residents. These services include assistance with daily activities, medical care, medication management, therapy (such as physical, occupational, and speech), social activities, nutritional support, and specialised care for residents with specific health conditions or disabilities.

What kind of food do you serve?

Our nursing homes serve a variety of balanced, nutritious meals that are easy to chew and digest, while also accommodating our residents’ dietary restrictions and preferences. For Muslim residents who require halal food, we serve halal-certified bento sets.

Can residents eat the food of their choice?

Our dietitians work closely with all residents to ensure their nutritional requirements are met. This includes those who may have special dietary needs due to medical conditions. We understand some residents may prefer home-cooked or hawker food, and if they can enjoy a regular diet, family members may bring in food from home.

What do you offer for dementia care?

Our nursing home’s Memory Care for Dementia involves specialised settings designed to enhance the quality of life for residents with Alzheimer’s disease. Our approach emphasises active engagement and promotes physical and emotional well-being, without relying excessively on medication.

We maintain open ward doors to allow visibility and accessibility within the facility, while prioritising safety and security to provide a secure environment for our residents.

Our staff also undergo training to address the unique needs of residents with dementia, such as overcoming communication challenges. They are trained to foster meaningful interactions and support residents’ cognitive abilities.

What do you offer for rehabilitation?

We provide a comprehensive range of rehabilitation services tailored to meet the needs of our residents. This includes both preventive care and intensive rehabilitation programmes.

To further enhance therapy, we incorporate robotic rehabilitation, which offers precise movements, increased intensity, improved safety, and greater resident engagement. This approach helps to achieve better rehabilitation outcomes.

Admissions, Cost & Payment

What are the criteria for admission?

United Medicare Centre is a private nursing home that provides residential care to assist residents with their daily activities and nursing care needs. All our facilities are accredited and licensed by the Ministry of Health to offer subsidies, which means that we can accommodate both private and subsidised placements

For Private Placement
The following documents are required for pre-assessment, with a validity period of no more than six months from the application date:

  • Latest discharge summary, medical report or medical memo stating the resident’s medical conditions as well as drug or food allergies
  • List of medications the resident is currently taking
  • Chest X-ray report
  • COVID-19 vaccination record

For Subsidy Placement
A Medical Social Worker may assist with your application, as a referral from AIC is required. Alternatively, you can approach AICare Link for more information here. Once we accept the case for assessment, admission generally takes less than 10 days.

Please feel free to contact us for more details.

What are the costs and what does it cover?

Our nursing home rates vary as each care plan is tailored to meet the individual needs of each resident. Please contact us for an estimate of the fees.

In addition to nursing care, our fees cover basic rehabilitation, medical care, dietary services, and speech therapy services (if required). We also offer a range of recreational activities to improve our residents’ physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being.

What are the Payment Methods?

We offer several payment options, including bank transfers, PayNow, PayLah, and a mandatory GIRO arrangement after admission. For convenience and security, we do not encourage cash payments.

Visiting Hours & Policies

What are the visitation hours?

Visitation is by appointment only, and a booking link will only be provided on the day of admission. Please note that operating hours may vary between centres.

Must residents adhere to the uniform provided by the centre?

Wearing the uniform provided by the centre helps our staff easily identify residents. For added convenience, we also offer an in-house laundry service for cleaning uniforms, bed sheets, blankets, and towels provided by UMC.

Health & Safety

Do you provide special assistance to residents with feeding difficulties?

Residents with swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) will be assessed by a Speech Therapist. Depending on the severity of the condition, the therapist will recommend appropriate food textures for safe eating.

In cases where oral feeding poses a high risk of choking (aspiration) or related complications, such as aspiration pneumonia, the use of a feeding tube may be advised. Our dedicated care staff are trained in tube feeding techniques and proper maintenance techniques to ensure hygiene.

How do you prevent pressure sores?

For bedridden residents, our care staff will reposition them regularly to alleviate constant pressure on vulnerable areas. Alongside established care protocols, such as skin cleansing and immune support, we also recommend the use of air mattresses to improve circulation and relieve pressure points. A dietitian will also conduct regular assessments to optimise nutrition and help prevent skin breakdown.

Do you make arrangements for medical appointments outside of the nursing home?

We will assist in arranging transportation for hospital or polyclinic follow-up appointments. We also encourage caregivers to attend these appointments, as doctors may provide important advice relayed only to family members.

Daily Life & Activities

What kind of activities are scheduled throughout the week?

We offer a variety of fun-filled activities that promote memory care, such as Mind Start activities (e.g., puzzles, picture pairing, and board games), bingo, mahjong, and social and recreational events like karaoke and outdoor games.

In addition to cognitive stimulation, we incorporate body conditioning exercises, physiotherapy, and other therapeutic activities, tailored to each resident’s care plan. Through this, we aim to keep them active and enhance their quality of life.

Information boards are also installed at each centre to keep caregivers informed of our activities throughout the day, ensuring transparency and keeping everyone up-to-date.

Will the nurses be proficient in our native language?

Our team comprises a diverse group of international care professionals, each trained in basic conversational English to facilitate clear communication. Fluent English speakers will also be available on every shift to support effective interaction. Additionally, translation assistance will be provided for residents who speak dialects other than English.

Do religious services take place at the facility?

We welcome individuals who share our passion for caring for the elderly and are committed to realising shared success as a team.

You will be given opportunities to grow to your fullest potential and enjoy a rewarding work experience.
